Nominator's project description

Professor Gillespie is known internationally for his work in haptics and human-machine interaction. By combining design, dynamic modeling, control theory, and human-subject experiments, he has elucidated new aspects of human motor control, invented machines that can be wielded intuitively, and created robots systems that cooperate safely and smoothly with humans. During his stay in Germany, he plans to develop methods for predicting human motor intent applicable to human/automation shared control of vehicles.
